What is a gua sha?

THE jade facial roller is a massage accessory from ancestral Asian rituals. It is used on the face and neck and has many benefits for the skin: it stimulates blood circulation, reduces wrinkles, bags and dark circles, firms the skin and promotes a luminous and radiant complexion. When it is made of natural stone, it has the ability to retain freshness for a long time for a decongestant and draining massage.

How to use gua sha correctly?

Here are some prerequisites before starting the facial massage with gua sha:
  • Preparing the skin: apply a rich treatment like our massage balm to your face and neck to facilitate the gliding of the gua sha and optimize the absorption of the active ingredients into your skin.
  • Movements: generally speaking, make slow, gentle upward movements from the inside to the outside of the face.
  • Pressure and tilt: apply light pressure, do not pull the skin. Hold the gua sha tool at a 15 to 45 degree angle to the skin to avoid any trauma to the skin.
  • Cleaning the gua sha: After using your gua sha, clean it thoroughly with a mild soap, rinse it with clean water and dry it with a clean towel. Tip : you can keep it in the refrigerator to get an extra refreshing and decongestant effect during your next massage.

The stages of massage with a gua sha

  1. The forehead: starting from the eyebrows, massage with the long side of the gua sha going up to the hairline then on the sides towards the temples. Repeat this movement several times.
  2. Eyes: slide the tip of the gua sha gently over the underside of the eye, starting from the inner corner towards the temples. This can help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
  3. Cheeks: go back to the long side of the gua sha and massage the cheeks using upward movements from the inside of the face outwards.
  4. Cheekbones: with the hollow of the gua sha, sculpt the cheekbones following the muscle. Always make upward movements from the nose to the ears.
  5. The oval of the face: continue with the hollow of the gua sha to refine the oval of the face by going up along the chin and jaw to the ears. You can finish the movement with small rotations to relax the masseter muscles and relieve jaw tension. This movement helps fight against sagging skin by reducing the double chin and reshaping the oval of the face.
  6. The neck: lift the entire neck area with movements from bottom to top up to the jaw.
  7. Drain: Finish your massage by draining the toxins from top to bottom to the collarbones.
Repeat each movement 7 to 10 times per area. Avoid pressing too hard; the facial massage with a gua sha should be gentle and relaxing. Find below an explanatory diagram of the stages of massage with gua sha:gua sha massage scheme
