How to massage your face with a gua sha?

Gua sha is an ancient facial massage technique that has been gaining popularity in recent years. This traditional Chinese method offers a natural and effective approach to firming the skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, improving blood circulation, and promoting a radiant and healthy appearance.

What is a gua sha?

The jade face roller is a massage tool originating from ancient Asian rituals. Used on the face and neck, it offers numerous skin benefits: it stimulates blood circulation, reduces wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles, firms the skin, and promotes a bright and radiant complexion. When made of natural stone, it retains its coolness for a long time, providing a decongesting and draining massage.

How to use a gua sha tool correctly?

Here are some prerequisites before starting a facial massage with gua sha:

  • Skin preparation: apply a rich treatment like our massage balm to your face and neck to facilitate the glide of the gua sha and optimize the absorption of active ingredients into your skin.
  • The movements: generally speaking, make slow and gentle upward movements from the inside to the outside of the face.
  • Pressure and angle: Apply light pressure, do not pull the skin. Hold the gua sha tool at an angle of 15 to 45 degrees to the skin to avoid any skin trauma.
  • Cleaning your gua sha: After using your gua sha, clean it thoroughly with mild soap, rinse it with clean water, and dry it with a clean towel. Tip : You can keep it in the refrigerator for an extra cooling and decongesting effect during your next massage.

The steps of a massage with a gua sha

  1. The forehead: starting at the eyebrows, massage with the long side of the gua sha, moving upwards to the hairline and then along the sides towards the temples. Repeat this movement several times.
  2. Eyes: Gently glide the tip of the gua sha tool under the eye, starting from the inner corner and moving towards the temples. This can help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
  3. The cheeks: go over the long side of the gua sha and massage the cheeks using upward movements from the inside of the face outwards.
  4. Cheekbones: Using the hollow of the gua sha tool, sculpt the cheekbones by following the muscle. Always make upward movements from the nose to the ears.
  5. Facial contouring: Continue with the gua sha's hollow shape to refine the facial contour, moving upwards along the chin and jawline towards the ears. You can finish the movement with small rotations to relax the masseter muscles and relieve jaw tension. This movement helps combat sagging skin by reducing a double chin and redefining the facial contour.
  6. The neck: lift the entire neck area with upward movements up to the jawline.
  7. Drain: finish your massage by draining toxins from top to bottom down to the collarbones.

Repeat each movement 7 to 10 times per area. Avoid applying too much pressure; facial massage with a gua sha should be gentle and relaxing.
